It's only a short walk from VILLA STELLA down into the pictorial mountain village of Mírthios. Many of the old houses are carefully reconditioned to keep their special atmosphere.

Sitting on the panorama terraces of the absolutely recommendable taverns you can enjoy the wonderful view over the beautiful bay of Plakiás and the bright blue sea. With clear weather the view is enough up to the island Gavdos.

The situation is simply breathtaking beautiful. In the environment you will find wonderful beaches, tiny bays and steep ravines, old monasteries, wide olive groves with thousands of trees and many old villages.

A fantastic environment, almost unique on Crete. The place is also a good starting point for many worthwhile walks in the closer environment.

The village center is only a 3 minutes walk away from VILLA STELLA. Beside three really good taverns you'll find there two souvenir shops with arts & crafts and domestic products, two small mini markets and a telephone box.

The main street runs underneath the village parallel to the sea. Narrow lanes off are branching off, leading into the village center and to the church. Most of these alleyways are not passable by car.

The traditional place is still a village of olive farmers and cattle breeders - calm and almost looking a bit of overslept - with a fantastic view and romantic places.

Often you feel like time is stopping again and again - much is original and still little affected of the mass tourism.

The nearby Plakiás offers a comprehensive supply. There are many taverns at the sea as well as fine sorted supermarkets. Butchers, bakeries, cash machines are missing just as little as a laundry, a hairdresser, fruit shops or car & bike rental agencies. At the port trip boats invite to cruises into the neighboring bays.

Because of the unique locality nearly in the center of the island VILLA STELLA is the ideal starting point for daily trips into all directions and to the many objects of interest on Crete. E.g. the north coast with the beautiful seaport Rethymnon is only about 35 km away.
